Lol.......... Ha ha haaaaaaa... Is he JOKING??????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tell me my dear... This is a joke rigth??? Hey isn't supposed any sizer/sampler/Fx or wattever instrument on this world to work with a sequencer??? ??? ??? Of course you can play with live also... This is called a live performance... Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh i am loosing my time... Ok Kid... Haven't you ever seen a software or machine and you say yourself ok i don't know how this is called but it is supposed to do this or this or this... Sooooo... i need it... Naaa??? NEVER???? Ok i seem a bit rude... Man............ Looooool.... =; D In your home-studio the sequencer is the center!!! So just make achoice between Cubase, Logic, Digital Performer, Sonar, Live or Pro Tools if you have the money (BUT there is a free limited version) or a Hardware dedicated sequencer... Or a Porta Studio like Yamaha AW4416, or... ... ... ... Take care and sorry again... Moreno

I think you asked the wrong question... The answer is: Sure it's effective to use it with Cubase 5. But the real question you need to ask is: Is Cubase 5 the right environment for you? I wouldn't buy the app, if I were you, without trying it and all the other available sequencers in your price range first and decide which one you like most. All of them have plusses and minuses and in the end the one that you can use best is the one that's going to work best for you.

Sorry, Dr W., but I have to disagree a little. You can start a Protools package with an M-box. You get Protools LE, a nice in/out portable rig and it will cost you less than $500 (And I'm not contesting your opinion of protools's MIDI capabilities). Of course, later on, protools plug in are crazy expensive. In terms of learning Sonar because it's "easier", I'd say it's easier learning ONE program ever, and not learning one now, one next year, and so on. If you work in PC I'd say Cubase. If you work Mac, think about it a little bit. Still, that Mbox looks very appealing. --- "Dr. W." <rajajuju@...> wrote: > So just make achoice > >between Cubase, Logic, Digital Performer, Sonar, > Live or Pro Tools if you > >have the money > > Pro-Tools is not a sequencer, it is a DAW (although > it has MIDI > capabilities). So just make achoice >between Cubase, Logic, Digital Performer, Sonar, Live or Pro Tools if you >have the money Pro-Tools is not a sequencer, it is a DAW (although it has MIDI capabilities). Pro-tools MIDI is pretty sub-par as far as features go, although HD has some improvements. Nevertheless, you DO NOT want to buy pro-tools for MIDI. Pro-tools is for very high end pro audio - and it costs a shitload of money to get a rig up and running. The free version sucks balls and shouldnt be used for anything except instruction. Evilataombender, since you are clearly a beginner, you should probably go with Sonar. I think it is probably the most user friendly of the bunch. Its not the best, but you should start simple.

I totaly agree with you... > Evilataombender, since you are clearly a beginner, you should probably go > with Sonar. The problem with Sonar is that there aren't much Fxs and i never understood why they didn't put any Dynamic tools in the original package... Maybe this has changed since Sonar... but in the past it was not the case... So if he goes with Sonar he would have to buy extra FXs... But anyway the total price Sonar+Dynamic Fxs compared with Cubase/Logic/DP's price would be nearly the same... And... a good advise Evilataombender, buy it second hand just in case you would change of mind later. Moreno

I would tend to agree. Most importantly, each individual has to look at
what they're attempting to accomplish with their software. In my case, I
use MIDI and VST/VSTi's almost exclusively. So, buying ProTools -- with
it's emphasis on audio recording and hampered MIDI facilities -- would be a
waste of money for my situation. A package like Cubase -- which
specializes in MIDI manipulation and VST support -- is a much better choice
given my architecture. However, if I were instead focusing on straight
audio recording and trying to emulate a multi-track recording studio on my
computer, I'd take a hard look at ProTools as that's where its strengths lie.
Since the original question dealt with program compatibilities in using
MIDI with the Sidstation, I'd probably assume on the given information that
a sequencer package like Cubase would make a much better choice than
ProTools. If that is indeed a proper assumption, it might also be worth
checking out the current issue of "Computer Music" (issue #50) as one of
the features is a shootout pitting a few of the common budget sequencers
against each other. That could give some leads as far as where next to go
in the purchasing cycle.

And on that version you are very limited in your track count. And you cant run VST stuff, so you have to buy the very expensive plugs. Evil, its best to learn small and then upgrade so you can broaden your perspective, but I suppose you could just jump into Cubase SX. Its probably the best sequencer out there, although I prefer Nuendo. Try out some demos.
