I agree, that's where the rackattack excels. But I was always looking for simple, fat loops (kick, hat, 1 percussion instrument), and I just wasn't able to get the sounds I wanted. With the machinedrum, though, I get exactly what I want in the "fat department", while the rackattack loops can be great when you just include them in the MD basic loops as percussion loops. The sequencer is extremly simple to get to grips with, but the sound engine is way to simple - and it has only 1 stereo out. Nevertheless I was able to do some really cool loops with the ER1.
