Sounds like a great idea.  I use it with my Indigo2.  Actually that's 
all I use now MD and Indigo.  Can even use the multi mode too.  But 
it's harder to record live to the md compared to the mpc.  But, I 
haven't really tried it yet on the md.  I should asks questions about 
it but I always forget and I have too much fun anyways.

Couldn't really do it unless you had a power supply and a carrying 
case.  But you also may appear to be a terrorist or something, hands 
in a dodgy silvercase tweaking some knobs to set the time...  Anyone 
know a good carrying case for this thing?

Well you can only order them and I think they just started to 
distibute in a few countries.  But as for me I was dreaming about it 
and could never get it off my mind and couldn't help it anymore after 
a year of wanting the thing and just ordered it.  You wouldn't be 
dissappointed if you got it on a whim.  Just remember you're gonna 
have to pay something like a 60$ duty on it.  I had to pay 200$ in 
Korea.  You would have to find it used somewhere to try it.  And 
there have only been about 600 sold I believe so this may be 
difficult.

As far as that pad octigon thing.  I'm sure you can trigger the md 
with it.  You can map the md to your liking.  I'm not sure of the 
velocity though.
