someone also said that if you don't save and you shutdown, then your
kit settings are lost; which is untrue. they're *only* lost if you
change kits before saving any changes. but as you said, they can still
be restored from the buffer save (undo kit).

in short...when you power it up, the MD is *exactly* like you left it 
before you shut it down (which I think was the original question).

yes, but they're syncable to the sequencer; which is nice :-)

but it still functions well as a synth + general purpose electronic

I really need to get into those as well.  I've explored the reverb and
delay engines in depth (and with a large smile on my face) and I now
use the EQ instead of external EQ.  but I haven't done anything with
the compressor yet; mainly because I don't know anything about
compressors :-)
