I remember some of comments on the boards and in the trade rags when the MD first came out. The majority fell into 2 categories, often inter-mixed - "Not another drum machine...!" and "What? Its hardware ?!"; at the time the trend was definitely towards SW. The unique approach of the MD to *creating* music validated Elektron's entry into what everyone thought was an over-saturated market. Everyone that touched the MD fell in love with it - reviewers and musicians. I think the same is going to be true of the MM. "Who needs another VA...!" "With a keyboard and in hardware ?!" For the answers see above and wait a few months for the praise to roll in. You have to look at the MM the way Elektron does, as a whole. My bet is that the coupling of the MMs 6 synthesis machines with Elektrons synergizing of inputting that sound to brilliant and intuitive sound modeling / sequencing workflow is going to produce a burst of accolade every bit as strong as what met the MD. Then add feeding non-MM sounds into this beast. How unique will the synthesis machines be compared to what is currently on the market? Its really too early to tell. But given the editing capabilities of the MD and considering that one of the MM machines is a SID emulation Im sure Elektron wont let us down on that point. (I do hope they do a better job on releasing samples than they did with the initial MD release. I always thought the sounds on the site were somewhat lame compared to what can really be done with the MD. Maybe those first lucky 100 MM owners can help them out!) It is true that there are a LOT of VAs on the market. The non-memorable ones do tend to regurgitate popularized sound. But I welcome new additions. Because the best of them always contribute something unique and the ones that do are from vendors that allow you not just to reproduce sound but sculpt it. Everything about the MM seems to scream Rodin In A Box! Eric __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo!
