AC is a very good starting point for making different voltages, without burning everything up in heat! Going from 12V to 3V DC makes three quarters of the energi do just heat and no other good. With 6V AC (Which is 12V top to top) and a transformer inside we can pick up all kind of nice voltages without producing too much heat. And we want to have a kind of high voltage to get a good top-voltage for the outputs to get the transients right. Daniel
