the issue is that the MIDI channel you're using for the Nord conflicts
with the channels being used by the MD. just set the MD channels to
something different than what the Nord is using and you'll be fine
(or vice versa).

note mapping, I believe, is only sent on the MD base channel; so it's likely
this channel that is the same as what the Nord is using.

no, you can have the mpd16 send to the IN port on the MD's base channel
and just have it set up to map the pads to the same note mapping that the
MD is using.
