now, that's interesting!

so, ableton is starting and stopping when you press the respective buttons on the
machinedrum.  could you see if the machinedrum is sending those commands? if you're
using os X, there's an app, called "midi monitor", that will display any midi received
from your devices.  in windows, i don't know, maybe midiOX or midiYoke will do the job.
if you'd have a look at what the MD is sending to your computer when you start,
pause and stop the machinedrum, i'd really appreciate it...
