Nope! The Machinedrum is one of the loudest synthesizers I have. If I plug
headphones into the headphone out, I can easily hurt myself. If you listen
to my contest entry, that's how loud it is going straight into a MOTU 2408
mkII, not at full volume. I didn't use any noise reduction (or any other
effects), so if you're getting more noise than I did, something is not
right. (note: on some instruments, using AMD and AMF can make a persistent
ringing noise. I don't know if this is a bug, or just how AM works)
That said, there are lots of places you can inadvertently turn the MD
down. Check those master FX - especially "gain" on the EQ. If you turn
that down all the way, the MD doesn't make any noise. The DYN can also
make the signal too quiet if misused. To check what the signal is like
without DYN, turn "MIX" up all the way. Finally, of course, check the
level and volume settings for the instrument, and the master volume.
If all those are fine and it's still really quiet, check your cable, and
then check the level with headphones. If it's STILL quiet, maybe you got
really unlucky and somehow have a damaged MD. In that case the user group
can't help you.
