UPS had a delay so I didn't receive it yesterday when I was supposed to, but I will have my mono keyboard on Monday :) woot! I've been waiting since the betas to be able to buy one :D So are we still gonna do MnM pattern contests to compliment the MD ones?

Got my MnM yesterday and jammed out a bit on a pattern I made, it's really a wonderful machine :) http://www.nmisystem.com/music/battlestar.mp3

Gotta love that joystick! Man, if I had cats, they would be heading for the hills about now ;) Seriously, sounds pretty cool. /Scott Andy Tarpinian wrote:

I feel like I'm 'missing' something by not utilizing a Joystick with my SFX60. Ideally I'd love to find a simple 'MIDI Joystick' controller, but I do not believe anything like that is available. So I am considering purchasing either an M-Audio Ozonic (http://m-audio.com/products/en_us/Ozonic-main.html) or the Novation X-Station (http://www.novationmusic.com/nov_route/docs/front/front2.htm) which are the only two controllers I could find that offer a Joystick... Does anyone have any other suggestions? thanxs! -M

Also don't rule out pad's n stuff, like the kaos pad. Also some people on this list recommended building a joystick, and said it wasn¹t too hard. Having that real time control is amazing.

I have the MicroKorg, which has a joystick. I'm really happy with it. Another controller that features a joystick is the Novation ReMote 25. I wasn't able to find a standalone joystick, either, so I went with the MK. It's pretty nice to have the keyboard attached to it, even if the keys are kindof dinky. That's not too important, though, because I'm more interested in Multi-Map/Multi-Trig than I am in playing the keyboard. /Scott Mark Camp wrote:

It's a good quality keyboard.

The pads on the MK are pretty cool for use with the SFX-60. I've got one scene where I've mapped various BeatBox MIDI notes, so that's fun to bang out beats with. I plan to make a scene where the pads are mapped to MnM pattern changes, but I haven't had time yet. The faders and rotary encoders are useful, too. I've got faders 1-6 mapped to Vol, and the encoders (which are endless) to Filter Width. Faders 7 and 8 are not mapped yet, because I haven't though of anything useful to map them to. Come to think of it, I could probably map all the of the faders and encoders to something more interesting than Vol and Filt. Any suggestions? /Scott Andy Tarpinian wrote:

If you don't like the tiny keys of the micro control but love the control options of it, I would wait until after NAMM on jan 20-23 and see if korg releases their kontrol 49 here in the US. It looks to be available in Japan and features 49 full sized keys and all the control of the Microcontrol and they even package their wavestation synth from the legacy collection with it. No guarentee you will see it's release but it's worth a couple days wait. It has the joystick you are hoping to find as well.

We've found that the MnM tends toward shrieking Hellcat sounds, but we've discovered that it's got a mellow, placid side as well. The EOG is great for getting tones 'just so'. Run at decent volume through good monitors, we've heard some intense overtones coming from machines that sounded simple over headphones or at low volumes. /Scott Andy Tarpinian wrote:

Is the machinedrum good at making a large variety of snares? Layered complex snares?

Please don't get confused. The MicroKorg doesn't have a joystick. It's the MicroKontrol. Totally different keyboards. Actually I didn't know the MicroKontrol has one but now that I look at a picture I see it on the bottom left. Hard to see black on black. I don't think anything else has an audio input besides the Ozonic and X-station. The Virus Ti has it but it's a totally different beast, without a joystick no doubt. (They probably should have!) I don't think the Ozonic has a built in synth. The Remote X-station has the k station synth engine in it. Lot's more controllers as well! --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, Scott Kellogg <glaive@g...> wrote: > I have the MicroKorg, which has a joystick. That sounds tasty. I'll be at NAMM this year so I'll check out what Korg has to offer.. thanxs! -M On Jan 12, 2005, at 12:48 PM, thebedroom23 wrote: > > > If you don't like the tiny keys of the micro control but love the > control options of it, I > would wait until after NAMM on jan 20-23 and see if korg releases > their kontrol 49 here in > the US. Finally got a controller coming up for the mono! It's a kenton control freak studio thingy with 16 faders in a heavy old school metal box. Also got two interesting foot pedal input jacks. Happens to be the same as analogue CV inputs with a 5V feed. Great! Soldering two TSR jacks to each of the pots in any plain joystick or other potentiometer device works just as well as doing it in a guitar pedal. Gaffertape the 'stick to the sfx and off it goes! :) Seems to be standard the same 0-5V inputs on the faders, makes it easy to add more of those funky input devices. Hope to get at least one penny&giles ultra smooth dj-crossfader connected. Midi output from the live mixer would be perfect! PS: sync problems; be sure to use a star pattern on the connections. Dear say that most sync problems are probably due to long daisy chaining through slow devices and long cables. Get a midi thru unit to feed all sensitive devices directly. Same goes with the din sync if you chain sync24 boxes. Splicing two or three cables to make a dumb splitter usually works fine if you need to. Percussive attacks need precise timing, synths with attack in the envelope less so. Cheers, Andreas
