Monomachine routing questions

Monomachine routing questions

2005-01-09 by izfunky

Hi everyone, ok I'm sure this is stupid question but here goes.. I am
having trouble with the FX machines routing. I load, for example,
reverb on a track and I want to use it to effect another track in the
pattern I'm creating. I have read the manual about neighboring
tracks and such but am missing something since I can't get the effect
on the other track. Any help would be appreciated, my brain doesn't
understand routing apparently. Thanks, -Scott

Also since we are on the routing subject, I read recently an article
on the band Plumbline and how they run a cello into their Machinedrum
inputs to get a unique sound. This sounds very interesting, I was
wondering how you MM & MD experts out there use the inputs to process
sounds or instruments and any tips for people like myself just
beginning to explore these possibilities. Thanks again!

It's possible that although have have your routing correct, you do not
have a trig set on your effects track to open the input. For example,
if you want to use, say, track 6 as a reverb for tracks 1-5, set the
output of tracks 1-5 to be AB CD. Then, set the input of track 6 to
CD. That way, the dry signal of track 1-5 is sent out AB, and the
reverb track captures the output of CD. At this point, however, it will
be silent. Put a trig on the first beat of track 6 (the first trig
button), and set the Hold parameter to 127. This will insure that the
reverb stays open for the entire measure. Also, for this scheme to
work, you need to have your output set to 3x Stereo + AB = Mix in your
Global config.

Regarding the cello input, just try playing with differerent parameters
and see what happens. Start with a Thru machine, and tweak the EQ,
delay, and maybe put an LFO on the filter base. Then try routing the
Thru to a Chorus, and play with more settings. The possibilities are
(for all intents and purposes) endless.

Hope this helps.

Scott, thanks for the info, I will try this today. I'm just starting
to get into using the MM in more than the basic functions and am
realizing just how many things and different directions you can take
it. I appreciate your time to answer my question. -Scott

Exactly. I've been woodshedding on mine pretty hard, doing my best to
limit my musical activities to just the MnM. I want to see how far I
can push its capabilities. It's my goal to write a few MmM-only tunes
that sound full and complete. Others have proven that this can be done
on the Machinedrum, and I'm certain the MnM is just as capable. It's
limited by having fewer tracks, but I've found that the depth and
complexity of sound you can get out of a single machine is amazing.
