Re: [ MD restarts over & over

Re: [ MD restarts over & over

Hi M -

I think you're right -- after getting home, I was not able to replicate the
problem.

Before reading your post my guess was that the sub on the stage (which was
causing the platform to vibrate) was somehow interfering with the connection
between the power supply and power strip -- perhaps causing it to vibrate
in/out of contact. Now, this idea seems ridiculous!

I'll look into getting something to create a clean line of power right away.
Gotta love being a novice performer! Another thing I overlooked -- dry
towels -- those lights get hot...

Thanks much for the help -
Rob

Did it only happen at that location? Does it ever happen at home? If
it was only at that gig, I would venture to guess that the problem is
a dirty power line.

I know that my MD did the same thing back at my old place, but at my
new location I have not experenced it once. You might want to pick up
one of those devices that give you a clean power line.

I am glad that I could pass on my findings to you and to the group. I
know that if I ever thake my act on the road I am going to have to do
the same, as in have a device that is devoted to outputing clean
power. I don't know all the ins and outs of the device... and how it
deals with a voltage drop. I would assume it has a bunch of capasitors
that deliver a stable voltage. Kinda like a mini UPS.

Your theory is not far off... the sub could have caused a drop in the
voltage and this caused the MD to reboot. I can tell you that the MD
is a very picky box... it demands a clean power line. Back at my old
place my MD would reboot every 30 minutes or so. Which was a direct
result of the fridge switching on.

Hi,
excuse me if I repeat some ideas, but I could not find our group in
Yahoo groups.
I had also the restart problem and posted already a message with
remedies given by the MD service (reset the machine, install last
system ...) but all this had only a marginal effect.
Following the discussion we had I looked at the specifications of the MD
and the Power supply in the user manual and what did I find:
MD power consumption: 15W
Power supply: 6V 2A = 12 W

Therefore I bought a 20W tranformer (despite the warnings of ELECTRON
not to touch at the supply) and used it as a new power supply and all
my restart problems had gone.
It would be interesting to know the ideas of Electron service.

Hope it can help

G. Z.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
