MD userwave questions

MD userwave questions

2005-05-12 by izfunky

As a MD owner I am very interested in the UW upgrade offer. I don't
use MIDI too much other than syncing up the MD & MM in song mode and
then recording it on my aw16g. As far as loading the samples though
MIDI or the new interface being designed, how or what program would
you use from your computer to load them? Sorry if this an obvious or
basic question, but I want to find out if the UW will work for my
particular way of making music. Also are the samples tempo adjusted
as you change the bpm in the MD? Last question, are the samples like
all of the other machines in the MD, just record them to a step and
use parameter locks etc? Thanks very much, -Scott

As far as I know, everything that the public knows about the UW is
posted at http://www.elektron.se under 'Stories'.

Just wondering about the state of the forum?
Who's gonna buy the UW?
Who's gonna get the upgrade?
Who's undecided?

I fall in the last category. Not sure if I should preserve the
integrity of my original MD and not have a vacation this summer and get
the UW, or just send it in for the upgrade and be without it as it
heads back to Sweden (again ser no. 166-45) for a little MD reunion.
Everything went by pretty quick last time and it was back home in about
a week but who knows how long it will take to upgrade them all.

Anybody out there?

True Scott, I am sort of jumping the gun with questions, I'm just
excited at the possibities! I am a bit undecided as well, I like my
MD as is, I will wait for more info, but will probably still have
questions for you power users out there. :)

The more I think about the UW and its possibilities, the more I'm
forced to buy one :)

Im in need for a drumcomputer in my live setup anyway (though I bought
a 606 some days ago) and the MD-UW will make a perfect match for my MM.

I am going to get the upgrade... as I am a DJ this is going to kick
ass... not to mention I would love the ability to reverse a sample on
the fly. Oh, and another benifit that I am looking forward to is the
blue display.

note that the photo on the elektron site has a red display.
just a heads-up, in case it's a dealbreaker.

{that said, i hope that the display is "blue", ie the same
color as the monomachine, and also available to upgraders}.

yeah, i'm gonna upgrade.

I was wondering about whether upgraders would get blue screens. I'm
thinking 'not without extra money'.

I'm curious: Why do you all prefer the blue screen?

That's like asking why someone's favorite color is blue. Some other
possible reasons : preference, it would make yours a bit unique, it's
looks damn cool, a bit easier to read....

My question is, how much $$ for an upgrade.... I'm not making any
upgrade promises until I find out that figure.

I don't see how it is that big of a deal for
DJs...more than anyone else. The MPC is better suited
for straight DJs... but if you are not typical...then
the userwave will be indespensible.

Can't afford to buy it...unfortunately...maybe in the
future... I'd a like a few other samplers too... like
the MPC1000 and the Roland SP-606/

I'm definately interested if the price is right -- I need an encoder
fixed, anyway.

However, I hope Elektron sets up a queue or something and doesn't just
stockpile all the returned MD's. I'd hate to be w/o my MD for weeks
when it's just sitting on a shelf somewhere awaiting upgrade; I'd
rather wait a while then send it in when they can accomodate it.

I assume that you would get the same MD back? i.e. the upgrade is done to
order.

Or would they send out an already upgraded one sitting on the shelf?

I personally would prefer to get my own one back, but maybe that's just me.

I think he's talking about Elektron returning the machines to their
owners in the order they were received.

Not even so much in the order received, but in the order requested or
something -- if there's a general call for MD returns, what happens if
you send in your MD and there's twenty ahead of yours, and each one
takes a few days (or whatever) to upgrade? You'd easily be waiting
weeks while you MD just sits on Elektron's shelf awaiting it's turn
for upgrade.

It'd be great if Elektron implements some sort of registration process
for the upgrade, so you can send your MD in a couple days before they
need it.

Maybe a bit much to ask, but it would nice for users :)

I bet they have something in mind along these lines.

LOL friends go first! But that would still cause a massive flood of MD
owners sending in there units.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
