Hi Tommy, you could try out the Yamaha SU10 sampler. My friend picked me one
up for £25.

It is a pretty cool piece of kit and is also portable (about the size of a
video cassette)

It has a scratch ribbon controller which you can use to scrub back and forth
over samples and get some nice digital grainy effects.

It doesn't have any external storage but keeps info in memory even on power
down. You can send samples via midi and dump the complete sampler by sysex.
This sounds ideal right? Well it would be if I could get the saved dumps
back into the unit. So far I have managed to send bulk dumps to my sysex
software but when I try and send them back I get a 'data error' message.

I think this comes down to incompatibility. Some people have suggested you
might only be able to use a Yamaha hardware data filer. I'm not sure what
standard the Elektron userwave uses to manage samples so you might want to
check this out. The Su10 uses the Sample midi dump standard for individual
sample dumps.

Hope this helps. Oh I just realised you are looking for software......

If anyone has any info on doing bulk dumps with the SU10 I'd be really
grateful.

Thanks
CB

I can't help you with dumping back to the SU10, but I know one thing
for sure; you won't be able to dump to the MD UW because sysex stands
for "system exlusive" wich means exclusive only to that model. In fact
the model and brand code is implemented in the sysex code.

Dumping samples to and from the MD are done bij midi stndard midi dump
wich is something completely different. Maybe the SU10 supports this
too wich in that case would work after all, but my guess is it only
does sysex dumps.

If you recieve data error's it seems not all code is recieved back,
gtry using other software, cable, driver for midi card. I know i had
some problems with midiox wich resulted in failing dumps. It had to do
with the buffer sizes. I have the C6 midi dump tool in beta Daniel was
talking about and it seems very fast en very stable so maybe that will
fix your problem.

Ronald.
