Well you had to go and do it.

Well you had to go and do it.

2 days ago I started a thread that was about "leaning down" your rig to it's "essentials" and
today I'm plunking down $1350 for a Monomachine. JERKS! ;)

Anyway, I'm VERY excited about it. I decided to go with the monomachine because I think
I can get what I need drum wise using my KORG ESX-1 sampler and XL-7. I can't wait!

Also, you Machinedrum programming wizzes should release sample collections for those
of us who can't get both. There's an M-audio sample collection being sold for $40. Has
anyone heard these? Is it worth it?

Mark

While the CD of MachineDrum sounds is not a substitute
for the real thing...it is decent for loading into
Reason and Live. The single drum hits are good
quality. Even after I buy the machinedrum, I will
still use the drum samples from this CD when using my
computer to make music.

Hey guys, just wanna say, I got the sample CD of MD
also but havent got the money for the real machine.
I save my money to get a sweet monomachine too, cause
i think its more versatile for me than the MD, cause
I got EMX and ESX already for my Live Act(and thats
enough for beats for me).
Anyway, my ESX-tip to Mark is: beside using the sounds
of the CD on my computer(for Reason and Live), I
picked up the best oneshots (BD,SN,Perc. etc.) of the
CD, loaded them into Wavelab to normalize and cut
them(because they are cutted very bad, and ya samplers
memory is full faster than u can imagine)...and
afterwards I loaded the MD-samples into my ESX by
using the smartmedia. Sounds realy nice, trust me. By
the way, I also loaded some of the loops of the MD-CD
into my sampler and Im sure that u know, after
slicing, u can use the slices as onshots on the
ESX-drumparts...

Peasn,
toxictobi

its a fun way to play with some machinedrum sounds
but nothing like the real thing. samples can't do
elektron gear justice. its more for if you don't know
what a macinedrum sounds like

I agree, the machinedrum is not just the sound, it's way more. The
possibility to re-program the sound on every step (= parameter locks)
is the biggest attraction to me. Besides that the machinedrum can do
so much more then just drum sounds, especially with the UW upgrade now.

But I've got the perfect solution for you so you don't have to choose;
buy both like a lot of us. They are almost all I use nowadays and I
used to have a lot of gear! I use ableton with some VST's for the
things I can't do with the combo, but that's not a lot.

About the ESX, I used to have one, but the UW upgrade made me sell it,
it just doesn't sound good enough anymore in comparison.

Good luck,

Ronald.

Wow were you really able to replace the ESX with the UW? That's great news,
I of course want to get an MD but I also really need a hardware sampler/drum
machine. I feel I am missing my MPC that I sold awhile ago.

All I really need is something I can get some drum samples into. Like a
modern SP-12(yea I know you cant sample directly to ROM). Looks like the UW
will fill both my needs.

Do we need to worry about the Flash memory going bad after a while (years
and years), since we will be writing to it A LOT? Or is that a memory myth.

Well, I shall try your methods this weekend, as I got the sample CD in the mail today. I've
already deleated most of the samples the Korg came with for no other reason than either
they're reduntant with my XL-7 or too... Korg Electribe demo sounding.
