monomachine for hits/fx rather than pads/leads

monomachine for hits/fx rather than pads/leads

2006-04-16 by infrequency_recordings

hey there,

i hope this is not too stupid of a question, but not having the opportunity to actually *try* a
monomachine in person i need to ask:

i'm wondering how well the monomachine works for short hits/fx rather than pads/leads? i'm
looking for a companion to my partners machinedrum, but i want something to create similar
brief beatbox sounds (albeit not typical drums...they're covered with the md). we play live
ultra-minimal techno so i'd be particularily interested in glitch-y tones, pulses, etc. i have
listened to several mp3s demos of the monomachine, but most explore its use as a melody
maker.

does anyone have any examples of what i'm talking about?

also, just to clarify: are the monomachine effects global, like on the md, or can they applied
and tweaked live on each sound?

thx,
j.

some weirdness:
http://syncretism.net/snd/wtf%20is%20that%20sound,%20a%20jam.mp3

this is quick jam from february, made with one MD pattern
and one MNM pattern.

the monomachine sounds come largely from extensive use of
the joystick, slide tracks and parameter-locked LFO
modulations {everything about the three LFOs can be
parameter-locked, which means you can reassign LFO
destinations, triggers, shapes, depths and anything else per
step - something i've never seen anywhere else}.

aleph null. a simple insinuation around silence.

Hi

I made a sample pack for the freesound project using the monomachine.
it's an attempt at making percussion sounds using the MnM's sid machines
http://freesound.iua.upf.edu/packsViewSingle.php?id=675
maybe not the best example, but it's an example
