Questions about in-shipment MD

Questions about in-shipment MD

2006-04-22 by -0behn desu0-

I sent an email to Elektron support... asking them if there was a way to change the screen color for the MD... and this is the mail back I got....

"
It's always red. :)

But if you have a light from above it is reflecting green.

All the best,

Daniel Hansson, Elektron
"

....that is.... so f'kin...... HIP!!!

THAT'S why I love those guys. Seriously. Has nothing to do with the ridicously cool gear. Just that funky Swedish humor.

I just purchased a MD from eBay.... can't wait for the dayum thingy to get here.... had a couple of (probaly) premature questions...

1) Has anybody found a way to change the screen color? Lol... does anybody care? I just prefer blues and greens to reds.

2) Has anybody used the rackmount kit? How many spaces does it take up? Like it?

3) Has anybody made a battery/portable adaption to their MD? I did for my Korg EM a while ago... but that had a standard type power adapter plug... found all the bits at RadioShack. Does the MD's power supply have a funky connector?

That's all the questions I can think of... lol... till I get my hands on the little bugger.... probally need to ask about the midi machines and trigger locks... yah.

Jiggly with anticipation...

Would be quite tricky as it's 6VAC, not DC, thus you wont have much luck
with normal batteries. A shame really..

You could probably hand-change the LEDs. I know character LCDs are
pretty standardized in terms of available sizes. If you could find a
graphical LCD the same size, with a compatible controller, I don't see
that you couldn't do it. But you take all the risk of breaking a brand
new MD of course. :>

Imho, their color scheme is pretty hip, blue/green or not. That orange
LCD is so mellow.

The plug is the least of your problems. A battery pack is DC, not AC.
The EM-1 takes 9VDC. The MD takes 6VAC. It wont work.

>got ya. i was reading the Korg page wrong. there's no way to do a portable ac pack?
>or a ac/dc converter portably (don't know if THAT'S a word)?

Yeah you can, but it requires a whole heap of extra circuitry. Have a look at this page for what I mean. < http://www.discovercircuits.com/C/co-dctoac.htm >

You'd probably be looking at something like this one < http://www.discovercircuits.com/Andy/DctoACconverter.pdf > which as you can see requires a bit more than a few batteries running out to a jack :-)

If you do happen to do it, let us all know your circuit, I'd love to have a portable MD ;-)

cheers,
m.
