MD dynamics processor and Vocals

MD dynamics processor and Vocals

2006-10-10 by salman

Hello, I was curious to know if anyone has used the machinedrums
Inputs to compress vocals or instruments, and if it works well or
not??? I was thinking about buying an ART preamp/tube comp ($100), but
then i thought about using my MD...any advise would be cool, thanks.

IMO, the dynamix compressor on the MD is really set up to be suitable
for drum sounds mainly. It's pretty agressive, not sure it's
something I'D want to use for vocals or instruments, but don't that
stop you from trying for yourself.

i would reccomend the FMR RNC if you want transparent compression,
and if you want colored compression go for the FMR RNLA the products
made by them are very good quality and have a small footprint. i have
quite a few high end comps from emperical labs and neve, the fmrs
still get used all the time. i have never tried the MD comp for
vocals but i dont really care for what it does to the MD compared to
the FMR comps.

I'd go with empirical labs' FATSO everytime. It can be a great balance to the electronic edged sounds from the MD
