So, does anyone know why "80% of all Machinedrums and
Monomachines on the market allow 10x TurboMIDI speed, and
20% defaults to 8x speed together with the TM-1"?

My MD is old too - and is an 8x'er. You can tell in C6.

my MD-UW is only 9 months old and C6 says "8x", too. I don't care
actually, would be interesting to know the reason anyways. It's like
asking the doctor for all the details although you already know
nothing's really wrong with you.

I only get 6,7x from a MD-UW that is less than a year old. I guess it
has quite a lot to do with midi cable length/quality as well (i run
rather long midi cables), but I might be wrong.

With mine I can get the full 10x when using the MD normally, but strangely
only 8x when in the midi upgrade menu.

i think you may be right. it's like USB cables; anything longer than 16'
will start to loosespeed and bandwidth... I thing this is true with all
cables...
