Ideas for new Elektron instrument

Ideas for new Elektron instrument

2001-12-27 by etinomma

Just wandered if anyone had any crazy ideas of what they would like
to see for the next Elektron instrument if they were ever to make
anything else.

I'd personally like to see something that uses some different types
of synthesis like granular and Formant synthesis, also sampling with
realtime control would be cool. All in an MD style system but with
even more knobs :P heh.

Basically a kyma system for under £1500 :P

Ah well, I can dream.

[elektron] Ideas for new Elektron instrument

I can tell you my Dream...

Its a perfect MPC 2000 alike thing...

almost everybody i know who is doing liveacts uses the MPC 2000, yet nobody
is completely satisfied with its possibilities. And Akai doesnt show any
sign of changing anything for good on its design...
And the Yamaha RS 7000 is too big and to heavy for me to carry while
travelling...

I think with the Midimachines in the Machinedrum i will consider using the
MD for sequencing and buying a small Sampler for triggering samples when
going to play a live...if its works out to be reasonably comfortable, which
i doubt a little bit, with the MD having no possibilty to use names on
different tracks...

so its a combined sampler/Sequencer for me, with the genious Elektron
Touch..

The micromodular has no way to store formant values. The MM also
cannot do "real" granular as it has only 2.65 ms's of delay memory
and has no ability to perform "PV, TDHS, FFT, DCT"... I haven't
heard an acceptable granular patch on the modular yet. I've also had
a go at making a number of them with the limited resources available
on one 56309.

I hate to say this (because I don't like reaktor), but reaktor will
do granular and formants. The biggest difference between a kyma
user and those using max/msp or reaktor, is going to be sound quality
(we can skip that the kyma has quite a lot more processing modules
for now). The kyma can do 672 bands of realtime vocoding. A 800mhz
G4 can't even come close to this at 24/96khz.

I guess in this case money is your friend.
