Easy - it doesn't.

Midi clock is different than swing. You'll have to adjust the swing in
Cubase to match that of the MD.

syncing MD to a sequencer.

I've been building songs in the MD. Now I want to record those songs into Cubase, having the MD act as the clock master. That way I can go back and do all my knob tweaks via midi and be able to edit them graphically from the computer.

So far so good as I got Cubase to slave nicely and have gotten sequences into Cubase with no problem. But it appears that I've lost the "swing" in my sequences; Cubase seems to play back the sequence straight up with no swing.

Does anyone understand how the "swing" transmits over MIDI? I assume that it should be a slight variation in tempo and that those tempo changes should record in the sequence.

Do I need to need to do something in the Cubase Mastertrack to make this work?

any thoughts?

It's funny b/c when I record, I can see the tempo on the cubase transport bar change tempos slightly, which I assumed was the swing, but I guess not. It certainly doesn't on playback.

Nope. It's caused by variance in the midiclock.

Could this be solved by recording at high resolution and not
quantizing in Cubase?

No, swing just shifts the notes. The clock stays the same. If you change the swing amount on the MD, or any synth for that matter, Cubase should record it as you hear it. My guess, as someone else mentioned, is that you have quantize turned on in Cubase. Shut that off and everything should work.

nope, quantize is off.
