Some things i would like to have on my MD

Some things i would like to have on my MD

2002-06-29 by steril707

I LOVE LOVE LOVE the MD, but here are my 5 cents on improvements i'd
like to see being made on it:

* I would prefer Patches insteadof/nextto whole Kits. The
current "Kit-System" is very tedious to use. Sometimes i just want a
certain Bassdrum i created, and the process to get it out of a kit i
created before, is way too complex/unintuitive for me. I like the way
how this is handled in common synthesizers...

* the LEDs under the Stepbuttons should indicate wich pattern is
selected currently, instead of showing which drum is played
currently, something i am already able to see on those LEDs in the
left upper corner of the MD. Its diff

* as sometimes mentioned on this list, i wish there would be a
possibility to assign definable "global Parameters" to the endless
rotaries, such as a "global cutoff" "pan" "key change", whatever...

MD ROCKS!

I dissagree on the first two 2 points, but the 3rd idea is excellent!

Allright to add to this thread, the things I would most like to see
on the MD are:
1.Flam, or some sort of MIDI delay to create rolls.
2. Assignable ADSR envelope (perhaps an option to switch the
normal LFO's to an adsr)
3. More global effects (flange, etc), and more editabilty of the
effects ( like distortion parameters), along with the ability to
sequence changes in the processors.
4. And yes, Global parameter controls!!!! (dist, filter,Amp.
mod.,etc), preferably with the ability to parameter lock/sequence
those parameter changes.
5.Bit rate reduction!

Any more?

yes, yes, yes!! this would be soooo sweet!

even just a "reverse" of sorts so I could get those wack bassdrum tones...

my goodness yes...with both linear and adaptive reduction as a choice for
greater tonal flexibility.

I'm with Machinedrum,

Definitely #3... I really don't like the MD's distortion.

I would also like a modification of the reverb (or a knob) to make
it less "metallic" sounding.

I would like a dedicated MUTE button.. with a built-in 1000Watt flashing
LED. It is utterly annoying having to press two buttons at a time when
accessing such a commonly used function as "Track Mute".

Futhermore I would like it to be easier to access settings like "Hihat
Decay". On my TR-909, I never even have to look.. it's always the same
knob.. and it's always doing exactly what I expect it to.

If the MD had some of that straight-forwardness in it.. I think it would be
the absolute killer machine for live use. In it's current state I am still
a bit hesitant.

What is bit rate reduction? I've heard of sample rate
reduction and bit reduction before.

WHAT MORE DO YOU WANT?????????????????????????
You bunch o' Crack Ho's. We already have the sweetest
toy in the world.
By the way, a lot of the shit you're asking for you
already have. Read the friggin manual (it's easy
enough) and/or twist every knob in the thing.

Already have read the manual. What things in particular that have
been requested are already there?

you're right it isn't really a "rate"....Perhaps "variable bit word size
diminuation" (VBWSD) is better?

You can use the right LFO's upward ramp set to "trig", with
shapemix all the way to the right, and assign it to volume to get a
slower attack, but it's still not the same as a dedicated ADSR.

If people didnt ask about Midimachines in the Machinedrum, we wouldnt
have them now, isnt it? Along alot of those other features you are
refering about...

very very contraproductive answer of yours..

hahah reminds me of another effect i would like someone somewhere
to make- it lets you execute variable bit quantization by frequency
range- kind of like how mp3 and jpg compression works, except
instead of choosing the bit reduction by perceptual model, there
would simply be a knob for Fc.

It would consist of an FFT, a mask for quantiziation, the
quantizer and an IFFT.

The main purpose would be to simulate low-bandwidth web audio
downloads.

You could describe soundfiles run through your effect as
"warmer" and "Phatter".,and when I'm quasi famous I'll do a
product endorsement! (teehee)
So basically what you're describing would be kind of like a filter
that reduced the bits at specific fequency, with a specific
bandwidth...Is that what you mean? I could definitely use
something like that (besides for its intended purpose)...The virus
b has some interesting sample rate and bit reduction curves on
its filters...possibly similar to what you're talking about, though
not as refined..
