Sidstation noise - Is the Behringer Autocom Pro a good choice?

Using a compressor will only make the SIDStation noise more apparent. We
actually like this effect, and use a Boss MetalZone distortion behind the
SID most of the time (but hey.. we like it raw).

If you want to get rid of the noise, use a de-noiser or a noisegate.
Behringer does sell these things (the SNR2000 for instance). You also might
have a look at the Drawmer DS201.

Good luck!

The Behringer Autocom PRO actually includes a noise gate. See

for more details.

A lot of compressors do.. but that's hardly the point here. If you want to
get rid of noise, buy either a good noise gate, or some kind of denoiser.
Buying a compressor just because it has a (often sub-standard) noise-gate
on board.. is not a very wise thing to do (in my humble opionion).

Gating, in this case, is a bad idea anyway. The SIDStation's noise is far
from 'silent'.. and trying to gate that would definitely have a devastating
effect on the SID's characteristic sound itself. That's why a denoiser (or
even a well-configured EQ) is a much better choice.

Ah, much better explanation. Thanks!

Another suggestion is to buy a Machinedrum and use the external input
machines to gate the Sidstation. ;)

I use my crappy Novation Bass station as a midi controlled gate
dedicated to the sid. Works great and you get the extra lowpass
filter! :)
If you have a synth with audio in...I highly recommend this
configuration.

Take care.
