New Machinedrum demos

2002-11-01 by Robert Diggs

Has anybody else heard the new demos on the elecktron site. That shit
completely blew me away. None of my sounds even come close. That
Hammond is completely amazing. How is that stuff even possible? Am I
and idiot or can you do that on the sps1? I can't even fathom making
instruments that sound like that.

peace,

I believe it. I've been working on a track where I have the closed
hat (1/16ths) from the efm machine doing an odd synth sqeall-like
wiggle wiki-wiki-wiki-wiki-wkiwki-wik. I think I tweaked the lower
right on the 'synth' controls (filter? eq?) with some lfo timing on
the pitch/osc (forget the earlier post about making slow lfos, I'm
fine with them). Give your self some time and experiment with the
controls. Besides, I bet you wouldn't belive it was near a hammond
unless they said it. I'm lovin' mine.

I have an important question. Does anyone know, since the lfo doesn't
allow timing to clock. What is a number that corresponds to a full
note in the lfo speed? Is it 1 per step, 4 per beat, 16 per 1 full
note? Anyone from elektron hear me?

I can't fully understand your question...
Lfos on the MD are always timed to midi clock.
I can't remember which value equals 1 cycle = 1 bar, I bet it's 4.
just try it, or read in the manual, it's written on there for sure.

Yea, I'm thinking the same thing, my sounds don't even come close....
Who is Odegaard? Where are you Odegaard? Oh Odegaard!!! Can I advise
you on the art of demolition robotics ;) in exchange for some sound
programming tips? Is anyone else doing synthy type sounds, any tips?

I guess I'm going to try a lot of pitch locks and reverb this weekend...

I'm here Gavin. :)

Thanks to you and the others who comment on my demoes. I really
appreciate it! As for the sounds, there are no "magic tricks", except
for not thinking of the MD as a DRUM ONLY machine. I spend a lot of
time on each demo, to get it all right. AND I use 95% EFM sounds.
They are the best, the most flexible, the most punchy sounds by far.
Take the "Sarpsborg" demo; The strings, the melody sounds are all EFM
hi-hats. The rest is basically EFM bass drums (and a P-I hi-hat).
The "Rhodes" sound in the last demo is also an EFM sound.

If you want to hear more of my MD tracks, there will be some sound
clips (and hopefully video clips) on machinedrum.com in not too long,
taken from the concert which my cousin and I held at the recent
Elektron Party in Gothenburg. We used two Machinedrums ONLY. :)

Hey, that will be cool! I'm looking forward to hear them :))

Hi,
I know that LFO tempo=64 is the highest synchronized LFo tempo, after
that it's all "free-running" FM....

Thanks Gert!

Do you mean with my music? Nope. If there is anything by other
artists I'm not sure... But Elektron is also putting out demoes by
the other artists that played at the Elektron Party, like Zombie
Nation, Rob Acid etc.

Nils

Yes, that's what I meant. :))
Since I am a proud new owner of a MD (last Tuesday), I am very curious to
hear music that is made with the MD. I would like to hear if there is a
basic difference between that, and other tracks made with, say, a 909, or
samples...

Nope. If there is anything by other

Very nice!

BTW, how was the concert? What kind of music? How did the people react?

Ok the manual says it corresponds to 1/128 note increments? What do
you mean by synchronized? Ok it's synched to tempo. So higher than
64 something similar to FM starts taking effect? Interesting. But
wouldn't it have to be applied to pitch? That would also be 1/64th
note modulation synched? I just don't see the math.

I recorded a few MP3 demos a month ago.

Ah, yes, I've been to that page. Listened to all tracks. Very nice stuff.
Thanx.

In my experience the value of 1 means "go through the LFO once per
bar." 2 means go through it twice, etc.

thing I can't remember is if it's the same for 16 or 32-step bar...
