Elektron Musical Instruments

Hi guys,

I just received my MD and i'm wondering if  they
sent a brand new Sps-1 or a refurbished.

There are a few small scratches under the screen
and in the back. It really looks like it was
used. There was some dust/dirt  also.
The second knob is really hard to turn
compared to the other knobs, but that might be
"normal".

But wait it gets worst.
I was following the quick start guide
and after just a minute of playing,
all lights stayed on after pressing
any buttons. Also, when i
turned knobs, it changed the value all by
itself to the higher value, clockwise.
OS is 1.12b

Why don't you talk to Elektron rather than try to smear them on the 
list?  Perhaps, as a last ditch effort, if they DON'T help you, you 
can feel free to post on here... But if you "just received" it then 
I'm certain you haven't tried to get support yet.

Yo check the screen its probably just the plastic. I was hella pissed  
when I got mine cuz it looked like it was scratched with a brillo pad.  
Nonetheless, the plastic was just on there so well that i couldn't even  
tell.

I sent an email to Elektron first.
I also sent an eMail to this group cause Elektron
is closed at this moment and i thought that someone might
have an answer for the OS problem.
I recall that some people had the same problem
or a similar "almost DOD" when they got
their MD. 

It's fun that you decide to join in now, but
where were you when i asked a few
easy questions that never got any answers ?

Next time just shut up if don't have anything

Hmm... it _could_ be due to the fix for the separate outputs, if
Elektron does that themselves nowadays? The screen might accidentially
have become scratched and noone noticed. They have probably fixed that
in the PCB layout nowadays though.

I went to Elektron with my MD last friday, and got the separate
outputs fixed. The first time ever my MD was opened (this resulted in
some wear and tear on the screws)! Some cutting of the PCB was needed,
and then some soldering. No. Don't ask me what was actually done, I do
not know enough of electronics to tell you.

About the MD suddenly lightning all LEDs, no idea. I take that nothing
happened when you switched it on again?

Yes it was working when i swiched it on again.
After a minute or so, the same problem occured.
You can hear a high Freq buzz.
Now it's back in the box.

I heard of this problem a few times on this forum
(an other almost  DOA stories)
but i thought it was definitely considered a *fixed*
problem. I guess not.
Do they at least verify the units before then ship it
across the world ?

Have you tried doing a reset?  Hold down the function key when you 
power it on, and then navigate from there.  You'll lose any 
patterns/kits but that doesn't sound like a problem for you.

Has anyone else had to do this?  How long did it take to get it back?  
I've been using the separate outputs to trigger my Simmons SDS-800 so I 
haven't been concerned with the sound quality, but I recently wanted to 
route the BD out and it became an issue.

TechSupport have to say about it
b4 for doing a reset. Althought
i probably won't care for
the original patterns/kits, i
heard it's a good way (faster) to start
making your own kits.

I'm still in shock so i'm going wait b4
making any sudden move ;)

After that it was also starting up only once on 2 tries (one ok, one not,
very regularly)

It should not happen in 1.12bŠ Mine is still _not_ in 1.12b :-/

I'm not sure if you'll lose the original kits/patterns but I do know  
they're not worth worrying about.  They're not terrible but they're not  
really interesting either, just the run of the mill presets.  If I were  
you I'd try the reset and see what happens.  I still have the original  
patterns and kits, if you really want to hear them I'll see about  
uploading them somewhere :)

I thought about doing this (even posted to this group awhile back 
about it), but found a 'better' solution.  $55 for a midi to SDS 
trigger converter.  Now I can use the MD to trigger my SDS-8 and SDS-
400, which I route through the A/B inputs and process with the MD.  
It is quite the setup.

I'm still going to wait a bit for Elektron respond
cause i might return the unit now.

I have to talk to them about the Knobs as well.
I know there were upgraded at some point because
they were to hard to turn. Well, mine are ridicously
hard to turn and it's also pretty hard to press on it
to get faster increments.  If this is the second
version, did you have to use a wrench to turn
the knobs on the first version ?

I just don't understand, i'm sorry.

With a "soft reset" you won't loose anything.

With a "soft reset" you won't loose anything.

Hey guys,

I apologize for the way i handle
the MD adventure so far. I have to admit
that i'm not a very stable human being.
At least i'm honest.
So...

I  just did a soft reset.
After a few minutes, same problem.
So i did a factory reset, same problem.

It's hard cause i was kind of finally starting to
enjoy the MD. I had time to try parameters lock
and FX. The Reverb seems good/efficient and
the delay looks promising. But that's all
i was able to test. The UI seems great indeed.

I guess i will have to reinstall  the OS.
I'll wait for tech support first.

OS bug, mine did this until I did a soft reset etc.
the M4 also get "stuck", and nothing worksŠ
After that it was also starting up only once on 2 tries (one ok, one not,
very regularly)

It should not happen in 1.12bŠ Mine is still _not_ in 1.12b :-/

The actual modification takes about 30 minutes with soldering and
such. How long does it take for shipping it to Elektron and back? A
week or so?
