I made some strange string-type sounds using the EFM hi-hat... -b On Wednesday, Jul 9, 2003, at 04:45 US/Pacific, steril707 wrote: > because its possible? > > only posts that help please, not discussions on which gear should be > used for what... > > > thank you.. > > > > > > > > Hello Guys.. > > > Did anybody found out a good way how to do string sounds on the > MD? > > > > > > i found some advice from nils odegaard on this in this forum, but > > > its quite cryptic... > > > > Why would anyone want to make string sounds on the MD?? > > > > Gert > > www.waveworld.tv > > <image.tiff> > > > Your use of Yahoo! Strings like this! Check this out : get a impulse , send it to an external output such as C , connect the output directly into an inputmachine , give both , pulse and inputmachine delay (short 1 till 20 will work) now you got a phioscal modelled string sound , based on the karlpluss strong algohritm, good luck ! i already tried using the gnd-sn a lot, but i always end up with kind of "bell"-type fm sounds, or some weird "rocket scientist" elektro tones... please check out the Sarpsborg Tune on the elektron Website..that track was made by nils odegaard.. It amazing how those strings sound, and i would really like to recreate them. a long time ago he stated in this forum, that the efm set is the key to this, but when i use it, i just get belltype fm sounds, but not string like sounds. any other ideas? greetz, Steril

Use the lfo:s for adding more string like envelopes. Go for the reverse lfos:s, apply them to filter width and such. Use the eq to emulate the resonant frequencies of the violin body. /Janne P.S. http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/~d3berg/sounds/99musik/99-md4-mp3-demo.mp3 Adventures with the MD in the territory of houe music D.S.

i already tried that alot off course.. nobody there who made some decent strings on the MD with a detailed roadmap to success? like "EFM-HH; Decay 128; Pitch 98; Pan 89 etc......." ????? greetz Steril --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, "Janne G:son Berg" <d3berg@d...> wrote: > On Wed Jul 09 2003, steril707 <steril707@h...> wrote: > > > a long time ago he stated in this forum, that the efm set is the key > > to this, but when i use it, i just get belltype fm sounds, but not > > string like sounds. > > > > any other ideas? > > Use the lfo:s for adding more string like envelopes. I make alot of synth sounds with the sampler machines. I forget the 3 letter name for it. Just turn up the retriger. Adjust pitch for a kind of filter effect, maybe phasing. Use trigger time for note pitch. Add a little start. Adjust decay to your liking. I remember using bass drum. I think the higher sounding drum samples may be more string like. Delay does not sound so good. You may want to try to use the multi trigger possibility to make more strings. Copy the same lead type sound and have one trigger maybe two for a more chord sound. Adjust pitch. --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, W. Ok. http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/~d3berg/sounds/stringme.mp3 is my first attempt at creating strings with the md. Some ploingy sound at the start of the string sound, but you won't hear that in a full mix. EFM-HH as a violin type sound Pitch: 70 Decay: 96 Trem: 101 Tfrq: 64 Mod: 96 Mfrg: 96 Mdec: 127 Fb: 19 (very important parameter, vary this to get more life from the sound) Cut the bass with the filter (Fltf: 64) and the highest treble as well (Fltw: 71). Dist: 64 Rev: 127 (with suitable reverb settings) LFO-page: Param: Fltw Shp2: Inverted ramp Updte: Trig Speed: 34 Depth: 54 Shmix: 127 Parameters not mentioned should be at their original settings for the EFM-HH machine. I hope this can be helpful when it comes to creating you own string sounds. /Janne P.S. http://www.dtek.chalmers.se/~d3berg/sounds/downersbeat.mp3 Some weird hiphop-like beats made with the md D.S.

I like it when people create MD-only tracks that make me happy I'm spending so much time writing with just the MD :-) As for your violin sound...I used a similar setup to create this: http://www.cs.kent.edu/~jmelnyk/songs/MDonly.mp3 The main differences between our setups are: - LFO's; I combined both ramps to get a slow attack - Mod/tremolo values; these were both at their presets - AMD/AMF; I used these to get a bit more depth out of the sound Other than that, they're pretty similar settings. I'm very anxious to try your values and combine them with my values.... I'm sure I'll get something interesting; knowing this machine, that is. Joe.
