SIDSTATION WHITE NOISE

SIDSTATION WHITE NOISE

2003-07-21 by Col Dee

Is it just me or does analogue white noise sound subtly different to
digital white noise?

I have an ElectrixPro WarpFactory vocoder, which has a built-in
analogue noise generator. Now, I am convinced that the SidStation's
digital version of white noise is nicer and more listenable than the
WarpFactory's analogue counterpart.

Have I lost the plot?

subtly? digital white noise is usually done with linear shift feedback
registers... it's periodic. if the taps are in the right places, it can
sound fairly convicing, but it's not random over long periods like
analog noise is.

"noise" is not created equal. (:

I wouldn't want it to be, though. There are enough sources of 100%
random noise!

All the better. That is probably what makes it sound quite warm to
me. It's a more interesting sound than the vocoder's constant drone.
It is more crackly and "small".

I think you will find differences in any two sources, regardless of
analog(ue) or digital.... I have an alpha juno 1 that to me has a
certain warmness to it.
