Man, I woke up this morning with that track stuck in
my head. I've long kinda avoided samplers and stuck
just to drum machines and synths, but I am coming
around to the realisation that 'tagging' a track with
vocal samples like that is way effective. I needa
su-10.

LFO on a Midi-machine

2003-08-13 by Arno van Goch

On my MD I'm trying to use a LFO to randomise the velocity parameter of a
midi-machine but I can't get it to work. I'm almost thinking it's a
bug/limitation of the MD. I can use the LFO to randomise pitch-bend, so it
seems the LFO is working, but when I set it to tweak the velocity parameter
nothing happens.

Has anyone been able to randomise velocity ( or random notes, I can't get
them to work either ) on a midi-machine ?

I've not tried it with velocity. But I did try using an LFO to
control the pitch and was unsuccessful. I also haven't tried it with
pitch bend or aftertouch, but mapping it to any of the specific
controllers (after assigning the CC number) works fine every time.
Maybe try assiging a CC# to whatever CC# velocity uses (7, I think);
perhaps that will work?

Let me know if you're successful....

Joe.

I've tried it with note length and it didn't work either. I guess
it's safe to say it doesn't work. An improvement on the midi machines
is all I ask for.

Oh yea, on the question about the global settings, there are 8 or 10
(i can't remember) custom global parts the user is able to "save" to.

i have had the same experience. a midi machine improvement would be
nice. my only other thoughts would be to increase maximum tempo to
400bpm because i like to work at double tempo with 32 steps. it would
also be nice to be able to save compressor delay eq and reverb
settings with the kits. ideally it would be great to be able to use
parameter locks on these as well. i know this is a major structure
change but does anyone know if it would be possible??

While I love my Machinedrum (it's replaced so much gear in my studio)
and have been hesitant to bring up want items or complaints as it does
very well, being able to save effects settings with either kits or
songs would be just phenomenal. Parameter locks on the effects would
be just unbelievably cool - I almost always avoid the builtin effects
in favor of my midi controllable effects kit, as I can use a midi track
in the MD to automate things about the effects.

I second your notions, endlessnessisticman.

what are you guys talking about? are you saying that your MD doesn't
save the master effects settings with each kit? because if so, there's
something wrong. mine does this just fine. and according to the
manual, "all master effect settings are saved as part of the kit."

I agree with you there. that's one of my dream feature requests. the
other one is an "empty note" that doesn't trigger a sound, but will
allow you to assign parameter locks to it. so then your changes can
fall anywhere, not just when you are triggering notes.

I love doing this as well. my MIDI effects unit (Alesis quadraverb)
has no realtime control buttons. so if I want to do any changes in
realtime, I *have* to use the MD to control them :-)

that said, I always use the internal effects for MD-generated sounds.
I usually run my Sid through them as well.

Joe.

I'm glad you liked it.

I didn't use a sampler but a daw
