I can't understand how the Elektron mailinglist has become the Machinedrum mailinglist. Anyone here own a SidStation? Anyone here like the sounds it makes? Where are all the SID lovers?!

I'm just in the middle of buying one! from a fellow list member, no less. I'll comment more once it's in my hands ;-) --- Col Dee <coldee@...> wrote: --------------------------------- I can't understand how the Elektron mailinglist has become the Machinedrum mailinglist. It's a fantastic machine that makes noises you can't help but fall in love with. But honestly, amazing though it is I think that the MD is a far greater achievement on Elektron's part. And since there's more room to explore in the MD than in the SID, I think people just have more to talk about. Not only that, but there's a lot of "does it do *this*....please tell me before I drop $1100 on it" type of questions related to the MD. Either way, I'm sure the MD posts will begin to dwindle soon, in favor of MonoMachine-related posts! Joe.

I have never really gotten into the drum machine craze...I still use standard synths and samplers to make my noizes and sequence all my drumlines on my computer. Maybe if I had the $ to spend I might never touch my computer drum sequencer software again but the MD (or any drum machine at all for that fact) is $ I just dont have :P I am still waiting for someone to come out with a good visual editer for the SidStation. I know its not that hard to edit on the unit itself but for me its hard to keep track of what is going on. I need most (preferably all) of my controlls displayed at once so I can see how things are fitting together and whatnot...I am really bad at programing when I have to remember what every settin is in the patch I am editing...sure it sounds stupid but its true. Ahhh the Mono-Machine...yet another machine to drool over with no $...Really I just need to breakdown and sell off my computer and get a real synth with a little more versatility...I own a Quasimidi Raven Max, an ESI-4000 turbo, and a SidStation...not the best combination if you want to make anything other than 80's dance music :P -Pas

Love the sounds, but I didn't use it and thought that it was better to let someone who was going to use it buy it. I have almost abanbdoned midi, only using cv/gate stuff nowadays on machines with internal sequencers. The MD stays though, it's the most inspiring piece of gear that I've gotten in four years. > Where are all the SID lovers?! http://remix.kwed.org/ :) Seriously, about once a month a mail like this drops in. "Why isn't there any talk about the SidStation anymore?". The reason for no Sid-talk? Noone talks about the Sid. Start talking, and other people will follow! /Janne, now where is that MonoMachine?

I was so impressed with my MD I decided to buy (after a month of deliberation and intense financial juggling) the SIDstation. I can understand if people aren't into this synth as it has such a distinct rasping (Marmite) quality to it. It is more of a "bull in a china shop" compared to the MD which is a cross between Mr. Miyagi and The Terminator. but since It arrived yesterday the sounds have so far been nothing but inspiring. I am slowly going through the manual at the moment and am really interested in the possibilities of the Wavetable but until then.... one little question...... I seem to be having latency issues even when the SID is plugged directly into a midi keyboard. Is this part of the SID's "charm" or can it be rectified? I get the impression that alot of people sample the output and rather than playing it live. thanks ofthicktum --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, "Janne G:son Berg" <d3berg@d...> wrote:

It is part of the sid charm, but can be rectified :-) The manual explains how to get rid of latency quite well. If you're going to use a sequence, that will be easy: check the system->sync menu, make sure that source is ExtCl, speed 100hz and cut 2, then add a negative delay of -20ms in the sequencer. Your sid will be synced. If you want to use it live, then you can try to set hcut to 0 and use the "gate" option in the envelope. The manual will clarify this better than me, look for sync and envelope. I wouldn't sample the sid, you'd loose its analogue unpredictable character

It is more of a "bull in a china shop" compared to the MD which is a cross between Mr. Miyagi and The Terminator. but since It arrived yesterday the sounds have so far been nothing but inspiring. If I had a sampler I'd go nuts with the SS (SidStation). The other night I broke my own record, by recording about ten seconds of raw audio from the SS and then spent 4 or 5 hours taking little bits from it and making whole new sounds out of them in SoundForge. It sounds sad, but it's a functional exercise because it leaves me with a library of archived sounds to call upon! I think it's testament to the unique and inspirational sound of the SidStation. I love the fact it is never quiet, it never stops, and with some lucky settings, you can leave it and the sound keeps evolving on its own for quite a long time. I really consider the SS more of a "noise box", a generator of abstract and unorganised sounds, than a synthesiser per se. I've never used another machine that you could get so many unusual sounds out of from just ten seconds of improvised audio! Mind you, I downloaded some mp3s of the Moog Voyager (done by a user, not the Moog site) and did the same thing, albeit with fewer worthwhile results...

yepp... i noticed people stop talking about the sid since the md was out. i own no md..so this group was not so interesting for me anymore. however i own the sid since the early days ( hehe... i remember that i had to write a personal email to electron , where i had to write things about myself and why i want the sid - they only sold it that way ) and i still love the sidstation. but i don“t really use it much in my normal music. i am more intoo deephouse and laidback stuff at the moment. but sidstation will stay in my house :) i also get me some new synth..like the fs1r and the evolver - when you want to read something about the ss you should check out the early postings in this group... much stuff there. i also made some patches at the files area - i remember i uploaded a full soundbank with just freaky noise and drones - but removed it cuz nobody cares about it :/ anyway... sidstation4life :) phono --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, "technoweeniepas" <heitert@h...> wrote: > --- In elektron-users@yahoogroups.com, "Col Dee" <coldee@m...> wrote: > > I can't understand how the Elektron mailinglist has become the > > Machinedrum mailinglist. > > > > Anyone here own a SidStation?
