OS update w/WMP

OS update w/WMP

2003-10-26 by izfunky

Just a quick question, in deciding whether to get a beta mono I've
been searching the yahoo site on how to update to OS to make sure a
basic computer person like myself could do it. I have found
reference that this can be done with the windows media player, which
would be great since I don't do any sequencing on computer and am not
familiar with it. Any suggestions on settings or the path taken to
enable me to do this would be appreciated. Sorry if this is a basic
question, I really want to get a mono!!! :)

First, you'd need a basic midi interface if you don't already have
one. Edirol has a few cheap ones. You'd probably get a USB one.
You'd need midi cables of course.

Then in your control menu, you make this interface your primary midi
device.

Open the elektron OS in mid format with WMP.

Follow the elektron directions for updating the OS.

If you really want a mono, just get one.

Updating the OS is usually easy with these dsp synths, it's the least
of your worries. What you should be worried about is weather you are
able to lead a normal life with one of these in your hands.

Don't worry about basic questions. That's why this group exists.

Ok i got my MM and its very cool! I am ready to try an OS upgrade
and am looking for a interface for my computer. Following
endlessnessisticman's advice, I'm looking at one from Edirol. USB
w/male midi in and out.
http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/sid=031030170558064012096135107426
/g=home/search/detail/base_id/109534

Hopefully this will be sufficient for upgrading, if I'm way off base
could someone let me know? Again I am very new to this. Thanks very
much!

p.s. my MM knobs are quite wobbly, one sits alot higher than the
rest..anyone encounter this?

I have two of those, they work fine. I also have M-Audio's 1x1
interface, which I think is loads better than the Edirol only because
the cables are longer and much, much less stiff.

I have the um-1 I think. I've never seen what you have. It looks to be about the same
except you aren't going to need midi cables with the um1x. That is exactly what you
need.

I'm using a cheap joystick port on my Soundblaster 128 sound card -> midi
cable, no problem updating the OS on the MnM, nor dumping sysex from the
MnM.

The cheap solution. :)
