mono songs?

2003-10-26 by oldmanfury

Hello,

Question - can you trigger patterns with the monomachine externally
using midi-notes like you can on the MD? I'm trying to imagine how
you would work with the MD and MnM together... It would be nice if
you could send a MIDI note out from each pattern in MnM song mode
that would trigger the associated MD pattern. It would be a total
waste of a mono-track just to use it as a MIDI machine to trigger the
MD. Unfortunately, I would rather write a "song" on the MnM and have
it control the MD than the other way around.

How are people writing music using both the MnM and the MD? Do they
synch well together?

you mean trigger MnM patterns from an external device? yes, you can do
that. the track mapping is more advanced than the MD's as well. you can
specify offset and length (like in the song sequencer) as well as
transpose values for each pattern and its mapping.

well, it's not a total waste; you wouldn't lose any of the internal tracks
because you would use one of the dedicated MIDI tracks to trigger the MD's
patterns.

note that a maximum-length MD pattern is only half the length of a
maximum-length MnM pattern. so you might have to do some coordination with
the respective triggering. (which would be less of a pain when having the
MnM control the MD than vice versa.)

agreed. it's a synth after all. :-)

well, I'm not really using them in song mode together right now so I
haven't had to deal with this. however, my for-future-use solution was to
make separate song-mode sequences for each machine. there's far more power
that way and I wouldn't have to sacrifice a track on either machine to
keep them in sync.

Joe.
