Random music

2004-02-04 by schmackofanz

i am having a ball with my monomachine.
Its almost like this thing is alive.
i created a track using the VO machine and assigned a note to each step.
Than i used the LFOs to change the consonants and vowels on every step randomly.
The mono spits out a continous flow of absurd syllables that is ever changing.
Combine that with a minimalistic drumtrack where the LFO randomly changes the amount
of retriggering and i have a backing track that sounds like the machine is improvising.
That is soooo cool!

Absolutely love the LFOs.
Its a piece of cake to create sounds that come with their own rhythmic animation even
when i hit just one note. impossible to actually play such a phrase. its truely electronic!

on the downside i still get the bug that the mono switches to a different kit in the middle
of a session.......
but then again i am still running 1.0.
will do the update NOW!

Similar things can be done by using just vowels and modulating the
vocal params and filter. Makes a good yodel if done well.

The vocal synth sort of bums me out. I was hoping for more timber
control. It's so identifyable, it feels like a gimmick. In a couple
years, it'll he all over many electro tracks and other sorts... meh.
I'd rather have had something more general purpose. But, whatever,
it's cute I suppose.

2004-02-05 by Automatic Panic

I would love to hear any mp3s that you have made using
the monomachine, I've heard the mp3s on elektron and
sonicstate but wanna hear more. Now is your chance to
show this baby off!

Thanks!

i haven't played with a monomachine yet ...

but after playing with a machine drum and checking hte MM specs i
think it's what i want (right now i'm used to composing using 4mono
channels in the LSDj tracker program on my gameboy).

of all the MM machines, the VO excites me the least ... as is the
case with ANY vocal synthesizer, it's totaly identifyable and will
sound dated/classic really quick. i can't even say that's good or
bad, just the way things are ;D ... however, i think it was a good
call for elektron to put something very charecteristic like this in
the MM.

what would you rather have from a machine? MM has the classic
stuff ... additive analoge sounding synthesis, FM synthesis
(including that feedback machine, i can't wait to play with that !),
wave-table/manipulation synthesis ... and then some specialties: SID
fake for chippers, a pure digital open ended thing, vocal synthesis.
can you think of a style of synthesis or specific sound that's
missing??

to me the apealing aspect of the VO is just the sort of LFO
manipulation the orginal poster talked about. that's something
impossible with any vocal synth i know of.

perhaps OS updates will allow for better tweaking of VO
characteristics, and the MM could have as many different voices as a
MAC, haha. maybe this is already the case, as i said i havn't played
w/ the thing yet!

ok bye!
