MD & Akai MPC1000

2004-07-22 by tahvenaine2002

Hi,

My friend bought mpc1000. I tested it very quickly and loved it
(maybe I should buy one). Is anyone here doing stuff with MD and
mpc1000? I would love to hear how people use it? Do you sync them via
midi clock? Is it easy to use both of them in song mode? Or how else
are you using the both of them at the same time?

Any other samplers with neat sequencer you would recommend with MD?

Toni.

Hi Toni,

try the Yamaha RS7000. I like it much more than the MPC in sound and functions. The RS
has many knobs and it's pretty cheap if you buy a used one.
Only con, maybe too big and heavy for live performance.
The Spectralis from Radikal seems to be very interesting.

Hi Toni!

I work with the MPC 4000 and the MD.
I don\ufffdt do MIDI sync, but I trigger the MD Patterns with Midi which is
more fun for my way of working.

In my opinion the Yamaha RS7000 and Roland 9000 are all Copies of the
MPC series. The MPC 4000 and 1000 are the best sequencer/sampler
combination.

Especially the MPC 1000 is very practical because it is so small and light.

I made a little inverstigation conserning rs7000 and I must say it
looks pretty nice. Mpc-4000 is very nice too, but it also costs a lot
more. I have couple of questions about rs7000:

1. I've read some seqenecer edit modes, but it isn't clear to me that
wether there is recording mode where I can hit notes where-ever I
want (and not like in MD: to only 16 steps)? I mean can I play for
example piano straight inside sequencer and it is not quantized (and
I can quantize it later if I want)?

2. Can I start making music for example defining a loop of 2 or 4
bars (like in MD or MnM). Hit the play+record and punch stuff in as
long as I want (and the loop keeps looping and the rs7000 sends play
commands to elektron gear)? And is there some instant undo button to
start over again? I know these are pretty specific questions, but
after elektron gear I take easy sequencing pretty seriously.

3. Can I do multisamples (haven't found this info). For example I
have one glitch sample in C4 and other in D4?

4. What stuff can you 'automate' or 'record in to sequencer'? In
believe some effects parameters can be recorded? Mutes? How about
something sample specific, like loop points?

It seems very nice machine, but why does it have only 64 mb of sample
ram...

Toni.

Now that you've got the bug, you're really asking
questions in the wrong forum. Check out some place
like:

www.rs7000.org

Those guys can answer all of your questions about the
rs7000. There's even a running flame thread on the
rs7K vs. the MPC's :-)

Also, you can check out the manual here:

http://www2.yamaha.co.jp/manual/english/download2.php

www.yamahasynth.com has product info. Of course, you
should always hit harmony-central.com & sonicstate.com
for reviews by real users (mostly - sometimes a
"whiner" gets in).

Nice box, almost bought one, just too big for my
little room.

Happy Hunting, Eric
P.S. max memory is only 64MB 'cuz it was released in
Dec 2000, that was way high tech for the times.

I've had a RS7000 and replaced it for a Korg ESX 1 next to the MnM
and MD. If you want a sampler wich works almost the same way as
elektron gear go for the ESX1. If you also want a powerfull
sequencer and lot's of re-(mix)-arrange power, go for the RS7000.
And yes, for more RS7000 questions please go to the Yahoo RS7000
group. It's a very complex machine with lot's of "strange at first"
features.

Ok. Enough rs7000 on elektron userlist. Thanks to everybody for
suggestions. I'll check the rs7000 forum.
