As long as you can set the internal Zip to SCSI Device 0 when your SCSI HDD is not present, then you can boot from SCSI. In my case I have modded my Emax to have external SCSI w/ an external Zip Drive which can only be set to SCSI Device ID 5 or 6. So I must still boot the Emax Plus 1.0 OS from the FDD because SCSI Device ID 0 is needed to be present in order to boot via SCSI. Once booted then I can load banks from any SCSI by setting the Emax SCSI ID to read Device ID 5 or 6 for my external Zip drive by pressing the Transpose and then the number pad buttons to select.
