probe your conection before install all together. you can probe only the backlight without connecting the data bus lines and change the polarity. The best thing is sense the voltage with voltmeter ever!
also could be that with the handling you can broke one line !

the new foil to the LCD PCB.

I replaced the LCD PCB back in the emax and reassembled.  LCD works 
fine, EXCEPT no backlight.

What could be wrong?  Would my inverter have gone?  If so, how can I 
verify?  I don't know where it is located in the Emax II.

I did specify the synth was an Emu Emax II.  Foil ordered from Telesis.
