Emax

The DX7 case is earthed. The emax was driving its clock output into the
cable whose tip touched the dx7 case (or the tip & sleve both touched
it, similar problem)

So you've got the clock output either shorted to earth, or ground.

Does anyone here know if the emax clock output has any output short
circuit protection?
