Hey. I can't monitor through when sampling either but I understand this is normal behavior for slightly less than modern samplers. My Mirage and Prophet 2002 are the same way.

Good day folks, anyway..I have an Emax SE rack and my unit does not
monitor either. Is this standard with the Emax in general?? I thought
I bought a faulty unit, but I ended up having to monitor my source,
watch the input during the sample process and check the sample after
the fact. It works great, it just so happens the Emax is the only
sampler I own that does not give you a monitor signal when the sampling
page is armed.
Far as 12 bit grit..lower sample rates will allow you to achieve a
sound very similar in character to that of an SP-12/SP-1200. But from
my experience going too low on the sample rate can take away the raw
character of the sound. 10K in particular has mixed results.
Sometimes it's raw and buttery...other times is just kinda flat and
lifeless. Anyway, nuff typing, I'm sure Im' not covering anything here
that hasn't been covered in the last 20 years..heh heh.
