Does anyone else have this problem? I wish to use my EMAX 1 as a means to achieve some sp12 grit and punch. any thoughts? [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

A lot of the prized grit and punch of the SP12 comes from the more crude sample playback transposition method. I believe the SP12 is actually true 12 bit all the way through too, whereas the Emax 1 uses 12 bit A/D and D/A conversters but 8 bit compressed storage. So the type of distortion will be different between the two. For added "punch" you can of course clip the signal going into the Emax A/D when you sample. Regards, Tristan Hustler Avenue writes:

Hello I intend to do the same, currently just do it the same as you would the SP cut and chop ur samples where you want them to hit at Bass drum kick snare kick and assign each to a key. that's as far as I've thought without fully applying to the emaxSE. Lemme know if you run into any problems.I'll test my theory on this end as soon as i find some DS/DD floppies to work with. GOOD Luck L8R --- In emax@yahoogroups.com, "Hustler Avenue" <hustler.avenue@...> wrote: > > Does anyone else have this problem? I wish to use my EMAX 1 as a means to

Hey Sorry After reading tristans response,I have better understanding of your question. If i'm right the SP1200 is also mono so anything going in is comiing out fatter.for me even Mono albums sound fatter in terms of drums and bass lines.try sampling from albums if you haven't already,or try EQing before you sample to raise or lower the sound you'd like.hope that helps L8R --- In emax@yahoogroups.com, "Tristan Upton" <tu@...> wrote: > > A lot of the prized grit and punch of the SP12 comes from the more crude > sample playback transposition method. Good day folks, anyway..I have an Emax SE rack and my unit does not monitor either. Is this standard with the Emax in general?? I thought I bought a faulty unit, but I ended up having to monitor my source, watch the input during the sample process and check the sample after the fact. It works great, it just so happens the Emax is the only sampler I own that does not give you a monitor signal when the sampling page is armed. Far as 12 bit grit..lower sample rates will allow you to achieve a sound very similar in character to that of an SP-12/SP-1200. But from my experience going too low on the sample rate can take away the raw character of the sound. 10K in particular has mixed results. Sometimes it's raw and buttery...other times is just kinda flat and lifeless. Anyway, nuff typing, I'm sure Im' not covering anything here that hasn't been covered in the last 20 years..heh heh. --- In emax@yahoogroups.com, "Hustler Avenue" <hustler.avenue@...> wrote: > > Does anyone else have this problem? Hey. I can't monitor through when sampling either but I understand this is normal behavior for slightly less than modern samplers. My Mirage and Prophet 2002 are the same way. To: emax@yahoogroups.com

I have used an emax se since the 80's...along with an SP1200 and u will not be able to monitor while sampling. Its trial and error...but it sure comes out fat!!!!
