Re: Damaged Emax in transit. Need advice to get things fixed.

Ok. This is what happend!

I pulled out the mother board of the SE keyboard and put it into the emax rack.
On the emax rack startup the top row in the display showed black blocks. I had put the IDE(?) cable to the analog board wrong. After I changed its position the emax rack turned on, loading emu software and generated a loud noisy, crackling sound which faded away after 10-15 sec. Then when I played some notes same thing happend as before but this time very loud noisy/crackling sounds. Then it stopped generating anything at all. No sound.
So I switched the rack off and just for fun switched places on the left and right audio cable. On startup it generated this ugly noisy, crackling sound but the software froze on the message "Loading software". I switched it off and reassigned the audio cables. Now it loaded the software ok but no sound. No noise no crackling sound.
Then I pulled out the analog board from the SE keyboard and put it into the rack. Everything works well now on the rack.
The strange thing is that when I put the exchanged analog board into the keyboard and turned it on... the display woke up? And when I look at the rack's display...it actually have some shimmer. Don't think it was any shimmer before but i might be wrong.

The SE keyboard E-chip differed from the rack's E-chip. The SE E-chip had a piggy back thingy on it and the rack didn't. I've got some pictures of them if needed.

So... do you think it can be the DACs?

regards
Kalle

But shouldn't one be able to read any characters then? The Emax rack's display is working. Well, the characters are shown but with no background light.

A funny thing is that on some sounds (loaded from disk), the D and Eb (5:th octave) generate sound but the voices "hangs" In most other sound banks they're dead as the other ones. It seems that only sounds with long decay, sustain and/or release are generated from the 5:th octave D and Eb.
