Floppy drive for emax se rack question

2014-02-05 by hotnixon7@...

Hi Emax group, first post, just received a broken emax se rack( wont turn on) without a floppy drive. I have a person that can service it for me. Should I send it to him without the floppy drive or order one? If I should order one would you suggest purchasing a HXC emulator or trying to find an older floppy drive? I know someone that works at a transfer station, so I might be able to find an old floppy drive. If an HXC emulator is the way to go what model should I get? Also, I have macbook pro, is there any program that works on OS X or do I need a pc?

Thanks,

Brian

You could dual boot your Mac into WinXP using Bootcamp per these instructions
https://discussions.apple.com/message/22260256#22260256

But without a hardwired internal FDD in your Mac (USB FDD's won't work) you'll be SOL

To save you money I'd install the slim floppy per Teds instructions here
http://djtbs1.wordpress.com
Ted and Jammie have the part numbers for the slim floppy and adapters so just ask.

Original NOS FDD's are scarce and hard to come by working and when they do show up they are pricey $75-$150 for used/new-
That's is you can find one.

I'd give you mine out of my EMax HD but
1) I doubt it's fit a rack unit
2) it only formats and can use disks it creates
3) I can't boot my system without it as the EMax looks for it first, then boots off my PCD 60B card reader.
As crappy as it is, I still need it.

I do believe there is a way you can bypass the the EMax seeking the FDD on boot but you'd have to ask Jammie or Ted on how to accomplish that as I can't remember

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
