EMX problem

EMX problem

2014-02-09 by loricruzer@...

First of all , I have not been using the site for quite a while, then I recently had some questions about EMX and EMXP. I noticed that the site has changed. It's really different and harder to access. If I recall, there was an accessible archive of years worth of research. Is that still available ? I'm thinking all of my questions have been covered extensively and the answers would be there. I could barely figure out how to even log in to write a message with this new format. What happened, maybe some type of space constraints ?

So my current issue is that I finally decided to try to use EMXP and/or EMX to try to expand my sound library. I have an Emax 1 w/ SCSI running OS 1.0 with a zip drive. I have the original Emax library on five zip disks which I purchased from the guys in England. The Emax is near mint , works perfectly.

At first I was confused and thought EMXP and EMX were the same. Thanks to you guys, I realized that they are two different programs, EMX is not a part of EMXP. EMX is a DOS program, EMXP is windows XP. I have Windows XP last version and I have a verified working (read and write capable) internal floppy in my Dell PC.

I have successfully installed EMX, EMXP, Omni Flop with it's drivers. I am going to present these two issues (EMX and EMXP) separately for clarity.

First with EMX. I want to be able to use the sound banks that are on the Synth Ark Emax/Emulator site. So far the EMX is downloaded, the 1.0 OS is loaded in the EMX file , seems to be all good. I format the floppy in the Emax and try to copy a sound bank to the floppy and it can not open the sound bank file. I thought maybe I had the name wrong and it couldn't find it. I am listing the name as it is, then adding a .emx extension on the end of it I think it is finding the file, just can't open it. That is the problem.

With the EMXP, after I select 'Manage Emax Images' from the Main Menu, then I select 'Manage Emax Bank Images' from the Emax Sampler Menu, I get an Errorcode 126 message: 'No Images Found'. The sound bank files are in a subfolder named 'Images' within the EMXP directory on my PC hardrive. How do I copy these sound bank files to a formatted floppy disk using EMXP so that I can ultimately load these sound banks in my Emax synth ?

I have also tried the Manage Floppy Disk option from the Main Menu, however, this only reads or copies the files on the floppy disk. I do not see the option to write files from the sound banks on my pc to the floppy disk. I'm not sure if this is the correct option to use.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sorry to even bother , I know these are old issues with most members here. I intend to eventually use a cd rom (that's what I have for my Akai S1000) , or a Flash Drive , card reader. But for now , this is where I am with the Emax. Just trying to expand the sound library.

As far as the site goes- Yahoo themselves changed the layout, we don't have any control of it.
The site is a bit different to navigate, is all.

Old posts should still be searchable.

I am not an EMXP expert…. but….
EMXP writes files in it's format and they end in:
For disk / zip images EZ1 (emax1) and EZ2 (emax2)
Bank images EB1 (emax1) and EB2 (emax2)

I can't answer whether just changing the filename extension works.
Esynthesist who wrote EMXP can answer the question regards the format.

There may also be some information regards formats in the EMXP manual- that is where I would start.

Hope that is helpful.

emx is an image format it has to be written to disk

you dont need emx any longer as emxp reads and writes floppies with these emx images

you just cant copy emx files to a floppy. they have to be written by emxp which from the emx files images create a real floppy sound and os disk

Re: [emax] EMX problem

you need to put the .emx files in the images folder

once the files are in that folder start the emxp program it will give you a list

now press the number for emax1/II images

it will list all the images that are in the images folder stating if they are emax1 or 2 images

from here you can you can tiock them and create emax bank images or create other images from them other sampler formats or sf2

its all in the emxp documentation and i always tell every one to read the manual fully as any questions you do have is in the manual

and even though this is the case

the same questions get asked over and over again

i do understand why that is as it is hard to find the answers using the search function

but i think we need to make a txt file with all information and make it a sticky

so that if any one asks the same questions in the future we can just point them to the files section and the sticky txt how to file

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
