Emax 2 - "MEDIA ERROR!" message

Emax 2 - "MEDIA ERROR!" message

2014-05-12 by Dave Whelan

I have an Emax 2 (2213) and I'm desparately trying to format a Zip disk on it.

When I try to format a Zip disk (in this case, a brand new mac formatted zip100 disk), I select Master 5, select drive #5, insert disk and confirm format request but then the drive does nothing and the Emax displays the message "MEDIA ERROR!" I have tried a couple of disks but get the same message.

The drive (Iomage Zip100 model number Z100S2) will read and load presets from a couple of sound library zip disks that I bought fine.

Does anyone know where I am going wrong??

ok,

first thing is

1) master 5
2)format erases memory press yes
3)insert source disk, insert floppy disk press enter
4)floppy loads
5)select a drive with data slider
6) scsi id 6 iomega z press enter
7)format drive ___ press yes
8)erases all data ok? press yes
9) zip- should format fine then verify

as your lucky enough to have a stereo model make sure you are booting the emax with OS 2.14

Thanks for the reponse. I have followed your list step by step to the letter. It is at step 8 where the Emax displays "SCSI: Media error!" rather than displaying "erases all data ok?"
I am using os 2.14

Any other ideas? or is there another way to format a zip disk ready for Emax 2 format?

ok do you have any other sampler you can format those problematic disks?

i think the preformated state they are in the emax dont like as you can rule out the zip drive if it works with other disks.

try format on say a akai then try to format on the emax.

Move to quarantaine

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
