Anybody tried the Adtron PCMCIA Card readers? SCSI or IDE?

2014-08-11 by xeelox@...

I see these pop up on occasion and am curious if anyone has tried or heard of others using these as HD replacements. I see nothing in the database and no posts w/ the work Adtron but thought perhaps someone has heard through the grape vine.

IDE to PCMCIA - Adtron SDDA Cardpak 2.5 and 3.5-inch IDE Disk Adapters for ATA PC Cards & CompactFlash Cards With an Acard bridge, this could be a reasonably priced option.

i have used adtron and have one of the scsi to ide drives whether they work in the emax i dont know as i never tried

they provide for the military

and they are very expensive be prepared to pay £500+

also they have been stopped manufacture on those devices several years ago whether they have any stock left is another question

but you need to ask adtron direct as your using the waybackmachine archive

Can't ask Adtron. Out of business. That's why I asked the forum and posted links from internet archive where you could at lease look at specs/datasheets. Adtron was bought out several years ago by SMART Modular Technologies and those products are long since retired and not supported by SMART.

The after market prices however, are not always prohibitive. The IDE versions occasionally sell for $25-50 on eBay, but the SCSI prices vary widely. I missed out on a SCSI one a couple of months ago that went for a mere $25, and then there are others with starting bids around $160-175 US. Now that's within the realm of SCSI PCD prices, so not terrible, but not a steal either.

My concern was how they implemented SCSI and its compatibility with an Emax I. At least one model explicitly stated SCSI 2 on it's datasheet so that the backwards compatibility question comes up.

If I can find one cheap enough, I will test and update the database unless someone else chimes in to say it's been tested already and didn't work.

they still sell the devices and why i said £500 +

you take your chances on these drives they may or may not work but like pcd they are obsolete and hard to get

the one i have created is new will still be available and the parts used are still in production so they will be able to make them for a long time

you can still get pcd-60b i just brought 2 for a customer for his emaxes

Thanks for the link Jamie. I've seen that site and yes their products are very expensive.

Besides, I don't see any of the older Adtron devices I was considering at Reactive's web site. Unless the Xceed models are re-branded Adtrons in a case, they look a bit different. Specs and model numbers are different too. Anyway I wouldn't buy from Reactive Data. As has been said--very expensive.

I may pick up one of the cheapies on eBay and test it for the benefit of the group.

Thanks for the info.
