if you run a search on 'emu emax' you'll find, currently at $50, an emax
clone made by a company called baldwin. might be worth something to an emax
collector!

}:-) <-- lining up the puerto rico emax...

woah, ive seen that before at first I didnt beleive it. I think that thing
sold
in the more mom and pop music stores, I know from my ex days at Guitar
Center
we didnt carry baldwin anything. That would be something youd find
at the malls organ store. No offence to the seller but that things looks
like
a piece of you know what!....broken key, unsure if it boots....like
unprotected sex
if ya ask me. Maybe good for parts eh?

Bradley Price, I never heard of a Baldwin Emax, but the Emu Proteus was
packaged as a Baldwin. The only difference was that it had a woodgrain
finish & no rack ears.

Hello,

I have a Baldwin IKE (Emax). In fact, that's mine in the picture on
emulatorarchive.com!

Baldwin and E-mu had some sort of working relation back in the
80's and several E-mu items got badged as Baldwins. Yep, they
were geared for Ma & Pa music stores. But under the hood they
are the same.

A few things to note: The Baldwin IKE has the last rev boards
used in the Emax, so that's a plus. They didn't print any
programming parameters on the case so you will need to make
your own sheet, but you can make it custom for whatever OS you
choose to use. It's ready for SCSI, has the board, has the slot in
the case for the connector, BUT the chip is missing on the board!
DOH! Anyone got a dead Emax HD, I could use that chip!

Since they didn't sell very well you could find them barnd new
usually about 1/2 the price of the Emax.

Hello,

Re: Baldwin

Just for those of you not familiar, Baldwin is a prominent American piano
manufacturer. There was a period where they were trying to diversify into
electronic directions, and they rebadged both the E-Mu Proteus I and the
E-Mu EMAX. The experiment must not have lasted very long because all
Baldwin electronic instruments are pretty rare.

The company is presently located at http://www.baldwinpiano.com. They also
own Wurlitzer and Chickering.
