What's actually wrong with it? Is it still working, or is there a serious
problem?

I'm sure you can get replacement keys, if the key bed itself is failing then
that's a bit more difficult. My Emax II is a module, so I don't know what
the mechanicals are like. I suspect it's pretty similar to all the other
synth keyboards of its age, though, and is probably pretty simple to take
apart, and repair any worn or damaged bits.

Of course, you could always find another dead Emax, and change the keyboards
over.

There's a company called (something like) Wine County Productions who do
replacement Sequential Circuits keys, they might be able to help.

Help!

2001-06-07 by Niklas Olsson

I'm on to by an Emax-2, my EmaxSE seams to fall to pieces so it's
time for a new. But I want to have 76 or 88 keys and an intern
sequencer. Is there some one who can recommend some thing ells, like
the E4K, K2500, Trinity or TS-12??

Cheers

I can't really recommend anything in the sense that there is nothing
else that can load your Emax SE banks directly except an Emax II.

Re: [emax] Help!

replacing the keyboard would be a fairly simple task. It uses a
standard keyboard used in lots of synths at the time. I want to say
it was the same one used in Ensoniq gear, but I'm not sure that's
right.

BTW - Gordon your date stamp is a month behind, your email says
May 11th.

Re: [emax] Help!

2001-06-12 by Niklas Olsson

I know that, but it its seams like quiet peculiar to
by a new synth, like ESQ1, Mirage or another Emax to
get the right keyboard. This is a cheaper alternative
than to order a new keyboard from a place like
emulatorachive, if they have some...

Re: [emax] Help!

2001-06-12 by John Silveria

No, I think you should be able to get a new keyboard that would
plug right in for fairly cheap. Call E-mu and ask for specifics on
what you are looking for, they might even have suggestions on
where you can get one. The suggestion made about Wine Country
Productions is a good one, though they can be fairly expensive,
they are a great place to get parts for older synths. Wine Country
was founded by ex-Sequential Circuits employees and E-mu's first
real influx of money came when they licensed a keyboard for SC to
use in their synths, so it's all related :)

If you get an ESQ1 to break for parts, I'll buy the display panel!

RE: [emax] Help!

2001-06-13 by Rob Keeble

Hi,
Replacement Emax and Emax II keyboard units are now becoming VERY rare, with
limited stocks at E-mu in the UK and USA.. These units were made in Italy,
and there are no known modern replacements. Individual keys are quite hard
to replace, although we can provide spare keys, but not a complete keyboard
unit. The keyboard units when sold as spares from E-mu are VERY badly
packed, and are very easily borken in transit. If anyone does buy one from
E-mu MAKE SURE thay pack it up properly and do not simply ship it out with
the original box (which has no bubble warp/foarm chips)...

Hope this is of help
