Board swapping

2005-09-15 by bishop1973ar

Hi,

I read some old messages concerning board swapping between an Emax 2
rack and a keyboard. I have a 2mb KB and a 8mb rack and i'd like to
have them the other way around. Can anybody give me some advice ?
Thanks,

Diego

Switch out both boards in both machines, not just the
daughter/upgrade board. I had the same situation and
it didn't work by just switching the daughter boards.

They fit rack and keyboard. I did have an odd problem
with sampling after. The key position got transposed
somehow and everything I sampled was out of tune and
had to be transposed up. I don't know if it's the
keyboard controller interface or what but it was a
pain and took some hard thinking to figure out what
was going on.

GOod luck!

J R,

Thanks for your advice and for answering my mail too. I swapped all
the boards (CPU + daughter and analog output), except the
display/buttons board which is incompatible. After the swap i got
this:

At the first power on all lights turn on, including the FD one and
the LCD displays a horizontal black "bar" in the bottom row. If i
turn off and on, only two of the three "normal" lights turn on, there
is no LCD output and the FD light turns on too. Thanks,

Diego

Oooh, be careful, I shorted out an Emax 2 motherboard
by forcing a SCSI Zip drives connector the wrong way
without looking from the back. Those motherboards are
way easy to blow.

I'm not sure of what the lights mean, there is an emu
diagnostic paper floating around that tells you what
some of the startup lighting means. I will try to
look for it, that's how I determined how I fried my
scsi controller. The emax displays certain lights
full 'on' upon startup when something goes wrong.

I'll try to find this documentation.

Post to the board and ask for it in the meantime since
someone else may have it handy.
