Hi, I want to completely remove the floppy drive from my Emax HD because I don't need it and will be using an internal zip drive, but it doesn't seem to get passed the "diagnostics" screen when I do that. I've read most of the posts that have anything to do with this matter but I haven't found anything helpful. Is there a way to make the emax "detect" a floppy drive even if it's not there? (maybe there's a "loop" after connecting the cable that senses there's a drive connected?) Any help is welcome. Thanks.

Problem Solved! For anybody trying to run without a floppy disk drive (and booting from internal zip or hard drive), I've found a solution that works!!! I suspected that using a jumper somewhere on the 34-pin-out for the floppy would "trick" the E-max into thinking there was a floppy drive (otherwise it would hang on diagnostics) but I couldn't find anything here or online that pointed out which one of these pins it was or if it was even true. So, I dug out all my old hard drives and cd-roms to remove their jumpers so I could have enough to place them on all 34 pins (who has that many pins laying around!!). Anyway, to find out whether it worked or not, I put all jumpers on the board's floppy pin-out... and... IT WORKED!! I didn't want to leave all those jumpers on there so I removed one at a time, rebooting each time to see if removing that jumper would cause it not to work. The result was that only one jumper is needed to "trick" emax. This jumper must be placed on pin number 26 (and its "paired" pin). So there you go! To get rid of floppy drive, just place a jumper on pin 26 and it's done. I hope this will help others who are also looking to operate without a floppy. --- In emax@yahoogroups.com, "brainztain" <digitailslide@...> wrote: > > Hi, > > I want to completely remove the floppy drive from my Emax HD because I > don't need it and will be using an internal zip drive, but it doesn't > seem to get passed the "diagnostics" screen when I do that. Is there a way to make the emax "detect" a floppy drive even if it's not there? (maybe there's a "loop" after connecting the cable that senses there's a drive connected?) Most keyboards are basically a computer.....and like a motherboard that looks for the boot disk because its part of the bios....the ROM of a synth looks every time for the boot drive.....because its part of the OS of the synth.....I don't think you can X it out.......unless the E synth lets you pick the boot drive in the OS and save as boot drive the zip......or the cable you are using to plug the zip into how ever that would be list in the Emu OS bios..... if it lets you pick and choose the boot drive or first boot item what ever that would be....Zip/HD/Floppy upon cutting the Emu on it would go to the Zip if chosen in bios as the boot disk..... gray

The emax will not boot from anything unless it detects a floppy ( a little different than a computer ), but using the jumper setting I mentioned the emax will think there's a floppy, so it works. I missed that what is the jumper setting on???? gray The emax will not boot from anything unless it detects a floppy ( a little different than a computer ), but using the jumper setting I mentioned the emax will think there's a floppy, so it works.
