Sound Designer / Mac Emulators

2007-01-09 by soundcrafter

I've been thinking of trying out Sound Designer II, primarily for
the Emax editing functions. However, since I don't have an old Mac
handy, and I don't really want to add another computer to my setup,
I've been looking into some Mac emulators. Anyone else in the group
running SDII via an emulator, or just using a Mac emulator for
general use?

I have a few questions I'm hoping you can shed some light on:

I've done a bit of searching and there seem to be tons of emulators -
any recommendations on what to try (or to avoid)?

How well does SDII function in a emulated environment?

What OS version do I need to run SDII?

Any major issues I should be aware of?

MIDI connection or serial connection?

Are the editing cababilities of SDII worth the effort? :)

Also, what about the ROM image i've read about (presumably the Mac
equivalent of a BIOS file?) - where can I obtain that?

Thanks for any help you can provide

Not sure if it will work as you don't actually have
Mac hardware. The Mac software will be trying to send
data out through ports on a Mac. Might work...Good
luck.

I have tried similar setups with no luck. The
application will run but you will have problems with
midi communication. The only way it will work is if
your emulator sends 100% accurate serial data out the
PC serial port and you have a Mac midi adapter
attached to the PC.
