Noizey emax!

Noizey emax!

2007-10-16 by sam_goose_266

Hello

I have been using my emax for about a year now. Not ver often. Anyway I recently have
found some time to record tunes again.

After recording my emax samples into my soundcard(emu 0202) Making sure all levels are
set properly.

I have noticed that the emax is very noizey.

Should It be clean sounding?

Where can I listen to some samples recorded into an played out of another emax?

Re: [emax] Noizey emax!

Recently I noticed noise while recording/monitoring on the
main outputs on my EMAX. If your not doing it already , try
assigning the program to one of the other outputs.

Regards,

Mike Wolak

Yes thanks mike. The emax is a fine sounding machine. I actually noticed it the other day
when mixing a track. The drums sounded dull. After time spent with EQ I noticed that
there was a lot of noize that made the sound, loose and undefined.

I then compared my sounds to some from an sp1200 sample collection, and also an emax
online demo.

The sound was so much cleaner then mine.

I wish there was a way so on boot up automatically all my sounds went to output 1.

so it's something that has changed recently?
do you have older recordings to compare it to?

in that case, something is broken, so take it to a tech and get it fixed!
:-)

Hi there,

don't get me wrong but isnt the point of the Emax that it is noisey
and grimey?

I sample drums into the emax and then back into my MPC XL. In the mpc
i can set the decays of the drums short to get rid of any noise IF i
want to. Usually i just add more noise (from an 'empty' sample) to
mark the noise though. The emax beats the shit out of any akai
sampling, including the mpc60 and is the closest i can find to an
sp1200. just awesome...

If you want extra noise just make sure you don't sample at the optimum level.
That way you don't make use of the best signal/noise ratio, i.e. you sample
with less bits !

Don't forget you can also use the analogue processing section
to "get rid of" and "add to" noise.

Generally speaking, the more you move away (downwards) from the original Sample key,
the more grainy it becomes.

Re: Noizey emax!

Very true!!!
i find the emax puts a real oomph on complete beats. it works best for
me sampling complete beats and then put them back into the
drummachine. sampling single hits works well too not least because you
can mix it better but you kinda loose that pumping compression when
you programme the beat back in the drummachine with single hits.
I am tempted to maybe fork out the dosh for an sp1200 if at all
possible just to avoid all that time consuming sampling re-sampling
malarky to get that sound? what do you think?

also, when too noisy:
there is a cheap and cheerful hardware denoiser/gate by behringer that
works very well getting rid of noise without altering the sound hardly
at all, especially if you can add a little highend before going into
it. it works great on vocals, guitars, bass etc etc too.
