Can I use these samples?

Can I use these samples?

2008-04-07 by Alan

There are samples on Ebay for various instruments.

Anyone ever buy these? Are they good? These come on CD. I have an
Emu Emax HD SE. My machine only has the original 3.5 floppy, midi, or
original computer socket. I have no computer sampler or editor
software to load these and transfer via midi. If these samples are
good, how can I utilize them? I'm guessing I would need a computer
software editor and then transfer thru midi. What are your
suggestions? Please don't say punt...I like my Emax. I could
certainly use a sample editor...so I could see the waveforms for
looping! I've never done any downloading of samples other that stock
samples from the original 3.5 floppy library, or my own sampling going
in the direct audio inputs of the Emax. (I have almost the entire
original Emax library on 3.5 floppy's, BTW if anyone needs
something ...I need the Vintage Keys floppy). Thanks for any
advice! -Alan

Hi Alan,

It looks like this is a CD of WAV files. You could load these into a
computer and with the appropriate software do a MIDI sample dump to the
Emax. But it will be a slow and tedious process. Alteratively, you could
play back the samples from your computer and sample them into the Emax. Of
course you would then need to find your own loop points etc.

Tristan

Thanks Tristan, What software do you recommend? I went to this
link: http://users.skynet.be/emxp/ and my wife has an older PC with
Microsoft XP and the 3.5 floppy slot that would supposedly work.
Also, some I have seen use Alchemy or Digidesign Sound Designer for
Mac. I could pick up an older Mac machine with OS7.5 fairly
cheaply. What software do you recommend? How easy is it to find
these softwares...I've tried Googling, but their age doesn't get much
hits (Sound Designer website calls it "Prehistoric"). Any modern
software that would work with my Emax HD SE? Thanks! -Alan

alchemy is in the files section of this group. Use alchemy if you get
a mac, it has rs-422 support which is faster than midi-sds. On a pc
use Soundforge for midi-sds, it's well established as being
compatible with an emax and you can set your loop points within
soundforge which makes the process a bit faster. If you can't afford
sony soundforge right now then download the .torrent (it's out there
somewhere) and buy it later if you like.

Hi Alan,

If you can get Alchemy or Sound Designer working on an old Mac and use the
RS422 cable then you can do fast sample transfer to the Emax. I am not sure
if those programs will import WAV files.

On the PC there is Sampler Wrench http://www.dissidents.com/products.htm
which supports WAV files and MIDI dumps to the Emax.

Tristan
